AMANDA SANDBERG

Amanda Sandberg (b. 1994) paints with diluted layers and only loosely references realistic proportions in order to deconstruct conventional ways of reading the people she portrays. Her work seeks to capture an ambiguous presence in which her subjects exist both within and beyond prescribed gender roles. Central to her practice is the concept of the gaze the experience of being perceived and the power structures that shape that perception. Through her paintings Sandberg invites a dialogue between the artwork and the viewer encouraging an open and personal encounter with each subject.
